Two penalties help Okeford beat Piddletrenthide

The visitors came to the Rec riding high in the league after an impressive start and also finding the net twenty three times in only seven outings, while the home side were desperately looking for a win to climb up the league after three defeats on the trot.

Okeford were strengthened with the return of six players to the starting eleven and started well, creating some good passing football as well as strong tackling.  However, it was the visitors who took the lead in the 20th minute.  A good run down the left saw the winger pull the ball back for the attacker to slot the ball in from close range.

The Butterboys kept pushing forward and were rewarded in the 35th minute when a long ball in to the penalty box that the keeper came to catch resulted in an infringement on Rocky Frampton.  The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty, which Olly Chaffey converted. Half time 1-1.

The second half started well for the home side and got better as it progressed.

Olly Chaffey put in an excellent thirty-five yard shot that produced a great save from the visiting keeper.  From the resulting corner Matt Drake headed home to put the home side in front.

The visitors were rattled and Okeford increased their lead when Mark Kirchmair ran on to a through ball.  After making contact with the ball at the same time as the keeper he was pulled back and another penalty was awarded which Chaffey again converted.

The visitors produced an excellent save from Lee Gray in the home goal on 80 minutes, and they also found the net in the 94th minute when Matt Drake put in to his own net.  But the day was to be Okeford’s and three points were well deserved.
