Okeford claim cup scalp

The Butterboys produced a shock in the cup with this win over their opponents from the Dorset Premier League and ended the week on a high after the club had to make the difficult decision to withdraw the reserves from their league.

The home side had to battle to stay in the game for the first twenty-five minutes as the visitors dominated on the very heavy pitch, only poor finishing kept the score even.

Finally Okeford clawed themselves back in to the game, John Frampton and Olly Chaffey with good chances should have found the net.

It was Chaffey who did give the home side the lead in the 35th minute when he was put though, following a superb ball from Mark Kirchmair, and ran on to fire past the keeper.

The second half was dominated by the home side, Chris Cole and Wayne Gregory worked hard for the team in the thick of the heavy pitch.

The Butterboys doubled their score following a foul on Chaffey.  He got straight up and took a quick free kick from inside his own half.  John Frampton was alert and made his run onto the ball through the static defence, before slotting past the advancing keeper.

Another couple of chances fell to Chaffey, the first following a mix up with the keeper and a defender, but he could only watch as his shot came down on the line after hitting the cross bar.  The keeper then made a smart save of his shot from the edge of the area, as an excellent chance to seal the game came and went.

The Hammers made it a tense last five minutes for the home side when they pulled a goal back, but it was to be Okeford’s day with another good all round performance.  They will host Upwey and Broadwey in the third round on 8th December.
