Gillingham take home the points

The Butterboys put in a hard working display but ended the match with no points.  The home side were fielding six players who regularly turn out for the Reserves, due to a wedding, illness, injury and work commitments of regular first team players.

Sadik Ali started up front and ran his socks of for the team.  George Stockton, who had sighed pre-match, worked hard for his teammates for the ninety minutes.

Gillingham started the stronger but failed to create any goal scoring chances.  By the time the whistle blew for half time the home side were back in the game, finishing the half the stronger, but also like the visitors lacking any goal threat.

Okeford started the second period the stronger and only a superb one handed save from Jamie Beale in the visitors’ goal denied George Stockton from scoring on his league debut.  Stockton placed a half volley from the edge of the box in the left hand corner on to be foiled by the keeper.

The visitors broke the deadlock after 70 minutes when a cross from the left was headed away but only to the feet of an opponent who fired home from 20 yards.

The only other chance of the half fell to Okeford when a cross from the right took a wicked deflection and the keeper made another good save to tip the ball over the bar.

Matt Drake was again outstanding in defence, and there were also good solid performances from John Woodland and Alex Wright playing along side Drake.
